Cruise to Cozumel

Lonnie and Mary took a Royal Caribbean cruise with Steve and Denise Snackenberg of TN from January 29 to February. Weather did not cooperate but all had a a great time anyway.
There was lots to do onboard. They had nightly shows in the Theater, bingo and the casino every day for Mary and Denise, great shopping, fine food in the Great Gatsby dining room and the buffet. The group even got into the Quest (adult game), Battle of the Sexes, and Mary entered the Sudoku contest.

The highlight was the port of Cozumel. We had to take a ferry over to the mainland for the tour to the Tulum Mayan ruins. It was very choppy and many, many ended up losing their breakfast. Our guide, Pablo, was every knowledgeable and gave a great tour of the ruins.

Afterward our group went to a private beach down the road and had lunch there. It was a little unnverving to see a guard with an automatic weapon at the gate to this resort. The beach was beautiful but the high winds kept us from enjoying it too much. We did walk the beach and get our feet wet.

We hope to try next winter for another cruise.

It's been awhile since we have last posted. Lots of things always going on in the campground. Monday and Friday nights are bingo for Mary. Tuesday is Bid Euchre for Lonnie. Wednesday is regular Euchre for Lonnie and Mary. Thursday night Lonnie has a Texas Hold'em game and plays Bocci Ball on Wednesday mornings. The campground usually has a social event every Saturday night. Tonight is the Valentine's Day dance and next Saturday is another potluck.

The biggest change is that now we will have a place in FL. We are buying a park model in the Old Mill Stream campground. It is very nice and the couple who are moving back to MN are in their 80's and decided to hang it up after coming here for over 20 years. We will be what they refer to as a 6 and 6, meaning we can stay here any 6 months and be home in IL for the other 6 months.

January 15-18

We attended the first game night since our arrival. Half the hall played dominoes; the other half were doing Texas Hold'em. We did the dominoes but couldn't be partners. Mary and her partner came in first with the lowest score and won $10 each.
Saturday night the campground sponsored a 50's dance.

They have one each month. February will be a Valentine's Day dance and a Mardi Gras dance in March. There was a huge crowd. It seemed like everyone went outside at 7:30 to see the rocket that was going to be launched at Cape Canaveral, but it was delayed for 2 hours.

A flock of strange birds has been hanging out around the campground today. Don't know what they are, but there are a lot of them!

Jan. 14

Took a drive to Camping World. It is close to Disney World which is about 55 miles from us. Fastest way to get there was using the toll road. Not cheap but fast. Cost $3.00 each way. Then we spent $80 at Camping World. Played euchre Wed. night. Had 52 people playing. Tonight we are signed up for dominoes. Got up Thurs. and it is 36 out. Will warm up to 63 today but drop into low 30's again tonight. Oh well I guess we can handle a couple of COOL nights. Not like we are getting snow, ice, and zero temps.

Jan. 6 - Jan. 13

Learning our way around Umatilla. Found the Wal Mart, Catholic Church, Winn Dixie. Played Euchre Wed. night. On Thurs. we drove over to Hernando to see a Ellen Cain. I used to work with her at WSJ. After visiting with Ellen we drove down to Tampa to check out the Hard Rock Casino. This is a big casino and very nice. On Friday Mary played bingo. They play that a lot here. Sat. and Sun. were nice and warm. Did grocery shopping and watched football both days. On Monday we drove through Ocala Natl Forest and then over to Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach was empty. Nobody there. I guess that will change for bike week. From Daytona Beach we drove to Cocoa Beach to spend a little time shopping at Ron Jon. Got back to campground in time for Mary to play bingo. Tues. is very rainy all day. Had a residents' meeting in the morning and then did the wash.

Jan. 2 - Jan. 13

Left Breese on Jan. 2 and drove to Texas T campground in TN. This is close to Steve and Denise Snackenberg's house. Stayed and visited with them for two days. Dennis and Jackie were also there. On Jan. 4 we drove south to Dothan, AL and spent one night there. On Jan. 5 we drove to our campground in FL. We will be at The Olde Mill Stream RV Resort until April 5. More posts to follow.
